When fishing or hunting in
the province of Nova Scotia
you must follow basic fishing
and hunting etiquette as well
as the rules and regulations
set down by the Department of
Fisheries and Oceans and the
Department of Lands and Forests.
These rules and regulations
are for your enjoyment and safety
so please follow them. If you
require further information
concerning the fishery please
contact the nearest Department
of Fisheries and Oceans for
their handbook.
SALMON: The salmon fishing
season begins June 1 and ends
October 31. Resident fees are
set at $36.06 incl. HST, and
for those anglers under 16 the
license is $11.40. Non-resident
anglers must pay $133.19 incl.
HST for a seasons license or
$54.26 for a 7 day license.
TROUT: The trout fishing season
begins early, from April 1 to
September 30. However, for the
month of September Speckled
Trout fishing is catch and release
only, but you can fish and keep
Rainbow and Brown Trout until
the end of the season. A residents
license will cost $23.92 incl.
HST and a non-residents license
will cost $54.26 incl. HST.
However, a non-resident can
receive a 7 day Trout fishing
license for $29.96 or a one
day catch & release license
for $11.40.
HUNTING LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
FOR NOVA SCOTIA
The Department of Natural Resources
controls the licensing for hunting
within the province of Nova
Scotia. Residents and non-residents
alike are reminded that you
must present your small arms
certificate from your province
or state before receiving a
license to hunt in Nova Scotia.
Also, for non-residents you
must have the name of a guide
in order to qualify for a license.
The Department of Lands and
Forests has a list of certified
guides on request. Or, we at
Margaree Lodge can arrange experienced
guiding for you. *No hunting
is permitted on Sunday!
BEAR: The bear hunting season
starts at September 13 and ends
at December 4. The license fee
for residents is $24.29 incl.
HST and for non-residents $114.00
incl. HST. For bow hunting,
$5.70 extra per resident and
$11.40 per non-resident.
DEER: This season starts at
October 29 and ends at December
4. Resident licenses are $25.51
incl. HST and for non-residents
$125.40 incl. HST.
MOOSE: In order to qualify
for a moose license your name
must be in the draw which takes
place in August. The applications
are available from any Department
of Natural Resources office
after or on April 1. The application
fee to have your name put in
the draw is $5 (residents only).

SMALL GAME: The fee for a resident
small game license is $14.82
incl. HST and for a non-resident
$51.30.
RUFFED GROUSE: Oct 1 - Dec 31
